The manual should show you, and possibly advise on how tom preload them. In any case, the head needs to be clamped firmly to the column. The RF30 type of machine is a very capable mill, with the addition of a DRO and the column registration mod, it will no doubt surpass your expectations and be a much cheaper option than selling and upgrading. regards. WebMay 20, 2016 · 05-21-2016, 12:39 AM. Your idea is a common one, but unfortunately in application it's not terribly effective. First, the typical mill-drill does already have a sort of "key" in the form of a rack, used for raising and lowering the head. The rack is generally free to rotate with the head, so it seems logical to simply pin the rack to the column.

The guy from this link RF-31 Mill CNC — Baka Mecha looks like he used 25mm size screws and they were a little big for the amount of space in the X-axis. The Taiwanese drill mill with R8 spindle is about the biggest made with at least 500mm X axis movement. From time to time, I think about some positive control when moving the head up and down with the round column.
